Fun at the Polls

The boys have helped me vote in two elections, a city election a few weeks ago and the primary election yesterday. I had planned on taking them after their afternoon snack, but since they were both not wanting to take a nap after lunch, we went then! Maybe I'm crazy for taking them with me to vote, but I think that it's never too early to teach them about the importance of voting.

Once we got to the polling place, I noticed that there were a TON of signs for several different candidates. It made sense to me, someone who is undecided may see those signs and vote for that candidate. There were several canopies set up with candidates sitting underneath. As we walked by the canopies, everyone couldn't get enough of the boys. Someone gave Jack a flag, then someone else decided that you can't give a flag to one twin and not the other, so Justin got one, too. We enjoyed chatting with everyone, and got several brochures and business cards as we walked up to the building. One candidate greeted the boys, talked to me for a bit, then said he'd have a onesie for them on our way back.

We made our way inside, found the appropriate room. I cast my ballot, then gave the boys the 'I Voted' stickers. The staff working the polls all agreed that the boys were excellent supervisors. As we walked back outside, the candidate who promised the onesie gave it to us, with a promise to send another for his brother. Everyone kept commenting on how well-behaved the boys were, which made me feel good. As we stopped to load up the boys in the car, another candidate offered to help get them in the car, which I thought was really nice. All in all, the outing was a success!

Mother's Day

I got to celebrate my first Mother's Day on Sunday! As my gift, I got to have a day off. So on Saturday, David got up and fed the boys, while I had breakfast in bed. I then got a pedicure, my first one since September! After I was finished there, I checked out the Frisco farmers' market and visited a couple of consignment stores.

I had lunch at a local Italian place, which was very good! I then decided to hit the mall. I walked around, didn't buy anything until I remembered the cupcake place. So I got treats for David & I! My last stop was Old Navy. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, but I hit the jackpot! I found some cute rompers for the boys and a skirt for me.

After napping for a bit, I hit happy hour at Starbucks before going to the Saturday night service. All in all, it was a great day! David and the boys gave me some beautiful roses and I got cards from both David and the boys on Sunday. We had lunch out with my family, then back over to my grandparents' house for dessert! That evening, I got David to take a picture of the boys and I next to our crepe myrtle. He took a picture of me next to it last Mothers' Day, and I thought it would be a great tradition. It was a great ending to a wonderful weekend!

Eleven months old!

This past Wednesday marked the boys' eleven month birthday! I cannot believe how fast this year is going past! To celebrate the big day, we went to the Starbucks happy hour and I had some cake! Oh, and I sang Happy birthday to them.

Lots of things have been happening in our world. We registered the boys for school and I signed my contract for next school year. I'm very, very excited about the boys' school, although it will be hard at first to drop them off.

Last weekend, we also took our second out of town trip with the boys. We went to visit David's parents and family in Abilene. This visit was somewhat easier because I didn't have to worry about pumping and storing milk, the boys' feeding times are more spread out, and the boys weren't sick.That being said, traveling with twin infants is not easy by any means.

The boys did have their first experience with sand yesterday. We met a group from PAMOM at a 'beach' in a nearby town. The beach was really a large sanded area with a playground.There's also a splash park behind it. The boys were in their stroller for most of the visit, but I decided to see what they'd do with sand. They patted it, crawled on it and of course, tried to eat it. Pretty much what I expected.

My next feat: plan the boys' first birthday party!
